Cornwall Council has unanimously approved a voluntary ban on plastic flying rings.
It follows a motion led by Councillor Rosie Moore to clamp down on usage of the toy which is popular with dog owners.
The move is aimed at protecting marine wildlife, particularly seals, which can suffer serious injuries or death after becoming trapped in the rings.
A Cornwall Council spokesperson says: "While the ban carries no legal penalties, it follows strong public backing, including more than 42,000 signatures on a supporting petition. Councillors hope the action will prompt retailers and beachgoers to stop using the products."
