Opposition is growing against plans to replace parking bays on Cliff Road with a new cycle lane.
Updated proposals for the area around the railway station, part of the Mid Cornwall Metro Active Travel Plan, were unveiled at a public engagement event yesterday. Dirk Parker, owner of K2 Gym, has told Radio Newquay that business leaders suggested an alternative route for the cycle path that would have preserved the parking bays, but he feels their idea was ignored. Cornwall Councillor Louis Gardner, however, said this week that project designers had "listened" to local concerns, adding that while some spaces would be removed, new ones would be created on nearby streets and in the railway station car park.
A fightback is now underway with a petition currently being organised.
