A newly renovated wishing well has been unveiled in Newquay and dedicated to a long-serving member of Towan Blystra Lions Club who died earlier this week.
The former Round Table well at Harbour Hill is now operated by Newquay Towan Blystra Lions and has been restored with the help of two local companies.
During the unveiling, Lions President Jon Collins dedicated the well to fellow Lion Lesley Baize, who passed away peacefully at Treliske Hospital earlier this week.
Speaking at the ceremony, Mr Collins said he would have loved Lesley to be there to see the renovated well, as he encouraged people to “come down and place loose coins into the wishing well."
The first coins dropped into the well were donated by Father Christmas, who attended the event. Money raised will be donated to local good causes.
In a message shared on the club’s Facebook page earlier this week, Mr Collins said:
“It is with a broken heart that I inform you that Lion Lesley Baize MJF passed away peacefully in her sleep at Treliske hospital with Lion Danny by her side.”
He described Mrs Baize as an “incredible woman” who supported the club for many years, often working behind the scenes to ensure events were successful.
Mr Collins added that when he became President in July, he had been given the privilege of awarding a Melvin Jones Fellowship, one of the highest honours in Lions Clubs International, during his tenure.
