Newquay AFC secured an impressive 3-1 home win over Launceston on Saturday, with man of the match Louis Price netting twice after Cam Turner had opened the scoring with a well-taken free kick
The win extends Newquay’s unbeaten run to five games, with four wins and a draw, leaving them fourth in the South West Peninsula Premier West.
Shaun Middleton’s side are now just two points behind leaders Wendron United, with two games in hand. They visit Bodmin Town on Tuesday evening before travelling to Millbrook on Saturday.
In the St Piran League Division One East, St Newlyn East maintained their perfect start to the season with a 3-1 victory at Kilkhampton, making it five wins from five.
Elsewhere, Newquay Reserves played out a thrilling 4-4 draw at St Teath, while Indian Queens were held to a 2-2 draw at St Dominick.
St Columb Major exited the Evely Cup after a heavy 5-0 defeat at Calstock, but Newquay 3rds progressed in the Percy Stephens competition with a 2-0 win over Pensilva.
In cricket, Newquay finished their season on a high with a five-wicket win over visiting St Erme.
St Erme elected to bat and were bowled out for 155, with Shane Tangye top-scoring with 39 before being caught by Nick Slack off Toby Chillingworth, who took three for 18.
Chillingworth starred with the bat too, smashing 67 off 36 deliveries, while Adam Jenkin contributed an unbeaten 37 as Newquay reached 156 for 5. The result leaves Newquay sixth in County Division One.
And finally, in their first game of the new season, Newquay Hornets claimed a hard-fought 13-7 victory over local rivals Perranporth.
Dan Hay and Mitchell Brownlow crossed the line for the Hornets, while Jack Higginson scored for Perranporth, with Samuel Thomas adding the conversion.
Newquay travel to Helston next, while Perranporth host Wadebridge Camels.
