The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for rain from 22:00 on Thursday until 12:00 on Friday.
Forecasters say heavy showers are expected to move across the region, with some merging into longer spells of rain, particularly near the coasts.
Dave Clarke from Kernow Weather Team said: “While not everyone will be affected, where the showers do hit, we could see 10–20mm of rain in less than an hour. In areas where the heavy showers stick around a bit longer, 50–70mm of rain in a few hours is possible, so some localised flooding could occur. Occasionally, some of these showers might even come with a rumble of thunder, particularly near exposed coastal spots.”
The downpours are expected to bring difficult conditions on the roads, with reduced visibility and surface water possible. Residents in flood-prone areas are being advised to check drains and take extra care.
The warning covers Cornwall and other parts of the South West.
Kernow Weather Team will continue to monitor conditions and provide updates here.
