Newquay-based surf charity -The Wave Project has launched its festive fundraising drive, aiming to raise £100,000 to support its Surf Therapy programme for children and young people.
The campaign is part of the Big Give Christmas Challenge 2024, which runs for one week until Tuesday 10th December. During this time, donations will be match-funded pound-for-pound, meaning the charity needs to raise £50,000 in just one week to unlock the full £100,000 target.
Mary Gray, Community Fundraising Officer at The Wave Project, explained the importance of the campaign:
"One in five children in the UK are struggling with their social, emotional, or mental health. At The Wave Project, we're on a mission to change that. A child would be referred to us, and they will be on a six-week Surf Therapy course. We have seen such incredible impact from when they first join us right to the very end."
The charity says donations will directly benefit the programme, which helps children aged 8-18 improve their mental health through surfing and connecting with the sea.
To support the Big Give Christmas Challenge and help the Wave Project reach its target, visit waveproject.co.uk before 10th December.
