An appeal has been issued after vandals targeted Newquay AFC Youth Football Club.
The club's canteen and changing rooms at St Columb Minor Recreation Ground were covered in graffiti sometime between Thursday evening and Friday morning. The incident has been reported to the police.
In a post shared online, the club called for the perpetrators to take responsibility and pay for the damage. The post highlighted the dedication of the committee and volunteers, stating they "have put in so much of their time and hard work to make this a great place to play".
Committee member Gill Treweek told us it would likely cost around £100-£150 to repaint and apply a graffiti-resistant coating, but stressed, "it’s more about our time than money".
She went on to say: "We are all volunteers, and we have all put in so much time, effort and hard work to bring this back from the rundown building it was six or seven years ago so our youth teams can play their matches here. It was only recently painted inside and out, just before the football season started, by myself, my son and another committee member, so it’s really disheartening to come and see this all over the walls. It’s not the first time this has happened – it’s the third or fourth time now.
"So now, instead of enjoying our Christmas break, our committee will have to get up there and clean up this mess."
