Heavy downpours have caused widespread disruption to roads and rail services across Cornwall, with multiple routes affected by sudden flash flooding.
The A3058 near the former Dairyland Farm Park was left completely submerged earlier, following intense rainfall. Further flooding has been reported along the same stretch between Summercourt and Quintrell Downs. Reports of flash flooding have also been made in many other areas, including around St Columb Major and the Aerohub.
Rail services have also been hit, with all trains between Newquay and Par cancelled after flooding on the line at Roche. Great Western Railway said the branch line is blocked and disruption is expected for the rest of the day. Bus services are accepting rail tickets, and rail replacement transport is being arranged, the operator said.
Kernow Weather Team said the heaviest rain is now gradually moving east, but issued a weather advisory for Saturday, warning of strong south-westerly winds of 20–60mph, especially in exposed areas. They expect a few heavy showers in the morning, cloudier conditions later, and a mild but breezy day overall.
There is also concern the combination of a large swell and spring tides could lead to coastal flooding this evening and into the weekend.
