Adrenaline junkies are being invited to plunge into the Atlantic at Newquay Harbour on New Year’s Day, as the annual Dip for CLIC returns to raise money for Young Lives Versus Cancer.
The event brought in more than £3,000 last year and sees participants wade into the Atlantic at midday, either in a swimming costume, a wetsuit or full fancy dress. This year’s entry fees are £10 for adults and £5 for children under 16, with cash preferred, although card payments will be accepted.
Organisers say those not taking part in the dip are encouraged to come along and cheer from the harbour wall, with bacon butties, cakes and hot drinks on sale and collection buckets available for donations.
The dip forms part of a wider fundraising effort, with Cornish artist Rod Walker creating a special painting of last year’s event. Framed and unframed prints are now available from SaltWalls gallery in Newquay, with all profits going to Young Lives Versus Cancer.
Young Lives Versus Cancer says the money raised will help support children and young people with cancer, along with their families, across Cornwall.
Further details about the event can be found via the organisers’ Facebook page or by emailing: newquayyounglivesvscancer@gmail.com.
