Members of Newquay Surf Life Saving Club are being praised for their "quick thinking" in helping to put out an out-of-control BBQ fire.
Members rushed to the scene of the blaze in the dunes at Fistral Beach on Monday evening.
The club says they used one of its fire extinguishers, along with buckets of water and sand, to manage the blaze until the fire service arrived.
In a statement, they said: "Their swift action helped protect our beautiful dunes and surrounding containers. We're also very grateful to the Newquay Community Fire Station crew for their rapid response."
They are now asking for donations to replace the extinguisher, which will cost around £120.
"As a community charity, all our kit is funded through donations. If anyone would be able to contribute to the cost of a replacement, especially the couple whose BBQ fire got out of control, we'd be extremely grateful. It would be a valued gesture of community support."
A spokesperson from Cornwall Fire and Rescue said: "An appliance from Newquay Community Fire Station was mobilised following calls of a fire in the dunes. On arrival, the crew used one hose reel jet to extinguish the fire."
