Specialist police officers are on patrol in Newquay and St Austell as part of efforts to deter criminal activity ahead of major summer events.
Devon and Cornwall Police have launched Project Servator both towns, using specially trained officers to detect the signs of individuals planning or preparing to commit crimes, including terrorism. The operation involves a mix of high-visibility and plain-clothes patrols, supported by police dogs and drones.
PC Archie Smyth, one of the officers involved, said: “As we approach large-scale events like Boardmasters and the Eden Sessions, it’s important to carry out preventative work like this. Our aim is to keep our towns safe and send a clear message that illegal activity will not be tolerated.”
Project Servator deployments across the region have already led to arrests and stop-searches for offences including drug supply, weapon possession, and shoplifting. Officers also work with local organisations and communities to encourage reporting of suspicious behaviour.
PC Archie Smyth said:
“No matter how small you think it might be, your information is vital. We’ll always take your reports seriously.”
Anyone with information about illegal activity is urged to contact Devon and Cornwall Police via their website or by calling 101. In an emergency, always dial 999. Reports can also be made anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
