Newquay Coastguard has revealed that August was its busiest month on record.
The service responded to 37 incidents last month. A spokesperson tells Radio Newquay that many of these incidents were handled in conjunction with RNLI Lifeboats, Lifeguards, South West Ambulance, the Police, and Cornwall Air Ambulance.
Coastal emergency services have experienced an exceptionally busy summer. During the Boardmasters weekend, lifeguards were involved in over 100 rescues. Watergate Bay was the busiest beach in the area, with lifeguards performing over 50 rescues throughout the weekend. Lifeguards at Porth and Fistral were also called into action nearly 50 times, including two major first aid incidents.
The Coastguard service is currently recruiting volunteers around the coast, including here in Newquay. Applications are open on gov.uk. The deadline is 9 a.m. on Monday, October 7th.
