The Cornish Proms will be part of the new Eats and Beats festival in Newquay this summer
Taking place on the Barrowfields during the August Bank Holiday weekend, the two-night event will celebrate British anthems and Cornish heritage through song, flags, and a sense of community. A 20-piece chamber orchestra and opera singers will perform inside a big top tent, delivering the music of the Proms in an outdoor coastal setting.
The concerts will run from 6:30pm to 9:00pm on Saturday 23rd and Sunday 24th August. Organisers say the performances will feature well-known Cornish and traditional Proms favourites, including Land of Hope and Glory, Jerusalem, and Rule Britannia, alongside local classics such as Trelawny and Cornwall My Home.
“These evenings will be a heartfelt, feel-good celebration of culture and community, made even more special by the sea breeze and beautiful views," said event organiser Matt Pooley. "There will be sunset with late-opening food trucks and we are bringing a fun, inclusive atmosphere especially for music lovers of all ages.”
The Cornish Proms are a ticketed event, and attendees are encouraged to bring their singing voices. Early arrivals will also receive free flags. The concerts are part of the wider Eats and Beats festival, which runs from 22–25 August.
