Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service has confirmed there was no fire at a shop in Newquay’s Bank Street.
A crew from Newquay Community Fire Station was called to the incident at the recently opened CeX store on Saturday evening.
Online speculation had suggested there may have been a fire, but the fire service has since confirmed there was no blaze, and that the smoke seen coming from the building was from a ‘smoke cloak’ - a device used as a deterrent during break-ins.
The shop opened its doors in August and, according to the company’s website, is “the UK’s biggest second-hand electronics and entertainment specialist. You can buy, sell and exchange your games, phones, consoles, laptops, tablets, computers, electronics and gadgets for cash.”
Radio Newquay has contacted CeX for further information and comment.
