The popular Dip for CLIC sea plunge at Newquay Harbour will go ahead despite the windy and wet start to the New Year.
The event, which supports the charity Young Lives vs Cancer, will take place at 3 pm today, later than usual due to tide times. The yellow wind warning from the Met Office expires at 3, and organisers say the wind has dropped for the event, which benefits from the shelter of the harbour.
Participants are encouraged to dress in fancy dress or their swimming gear and take a dip to “blow away those cobwebs” while raising money for a good cause.
Spectators are invited to cheer on those taking part, with plenty of refreshments on offer, including bacon butties, cakes, and hot drinks. Collection buckets will also be available for donations to the charity.
This year, the High Sheriff of Cornwall, Sam Galsworthy, will lead the charge into the chilly Atlantic waters.
The entry fee is £5 (cash only), and there will also be collection buckets for spectators.
People are encouraged to walk down to the harbour as parking is "very limited," and organisers need to keep the area clear for emergency services.
