The utility company behind the long-term closure of Treloggan Road says work is on track to finish by the 27th of February.
The road was shut in November for three and a half months while Wales and West Utilities carries out upgrades. The company said at the time the scheme was part of essential improvements to the local gas network.
On Tuesday, motorists were caught out when the rolling closure reached Wheatfield Crescent, cutting off a local diversion route around the works. It means drivers are now forced to travel the long way round to reach either end of Treloggan Road.
Wales and West Utilities has apologised for the disruption and confirmed its current work is near the junction with Wheatfield Crescent, which remains closed with a signed diversion in place.
Wales and West Programme Controller Natalie Raphael says:
“We have been working in the Treloggan Road area of Newquay to upgrade the gas network. This project is vital to ensuring gas continues to flow safely and reliably to homes and businesses across the area.
“We’ve worked closely with Cornwall Council, and to keep the public and our engineers safe, rolling road closures have been in place while we work along Treloggan Road. Our current work along the road is near its junction with Wheatfield Crescent, which is closed with a diversion route in place.
“We are sorry for any inconvenience our work may cause, but we are pleased to say that we remain on schedule to complete this work by 27 Feb. We know working on busy roads like this is not ideal, but it really is essential to keep the gas flowing safely.”
