The Duchy of Cornwall has reached a significant milestone in the construction of Market Street in Nansledan, with the first floor slabs for new commercial units now poured.

It marks a key step forward in the development, which is set to become the commercial centre of the growing community, bringing together food, retail, workspace and leisure.

Around 140 tonnes of concrete has been poured during the first phase with more slabs due to be completed in the coming weeks as work continues across the site.

Market Street will include a Tesco supermarket, a market hall showcasing Cornish food and drink, independent shops, community space and flexible workspaces.

The Duchy says the project is now moving into a new stage, following the completion of groundwork and piling, with structures beginning to rise above ground level.

Harry Greaves, site manager for the Duchy of Cornwall, said: “Pouring the first of the floor slabs is a huge milestone for the project and a real testament to the hard work of everyone on site, particularly after what has been one of the wettest and most challenging winters on record.

“The groundworks team has been brilliant and we’re incredibly grateful for their efforts.

“This stage allows us to really move the project forward. With further slabs being laid in the coming weeks, we’re preparing for the arrival of the steel frame in June, when people will really start to see Market Street taking shape above ground.”

Nansledan already includes about 900 homes and more than 40 businesses, along with green spaces such as parkland, orchards and community allotments.

The first phase of Market Street, including a supermarket, market hall and five shop units, is due to be completed next year.

A second phase of 13 units, featuring additional shops, offices and a public courtyard for outdoor dining and events, is expected to be finished by the end of 2028.
