A fundraiser is taking place this Friday night to support Move Together, a special dance group in Newquay that provides free sessions for women affected by cancer.
The Fabulously Funky event, held at the Oceanside Hotel, aims to raise money for the initiative, which offers weekly sessions at Heron Tennis Centre on Monday mornings from 10:30am. The dance-based programme helps participants reconnect with their bodies, rediscover the joy of movement, and find creative expression in a safe and supportive environment.
The fundraiser kicks off at 7:00pm and promises a night of dancing, fun, and laughter all for a good cause. Guests are encouraged to dress up and boogie with the Dance Centred Disco and take a part in their Random Raffle. Tickets are £7, available on the door or in advance from Dance Centred.
Move Together is designed for women at any stage of their cancer experience, whether recently diagnosed, undergoing treatment, post-recovery, or caring for someone affected by cancer.
Sessions include gentle seated movement, creative dance tasks, uplifting music, and relaxation techniques, with a strong focus on friendship, support, and joy. The programme is led by Dance Centred Practitioner Sam Lawrence, alongside dance artist Miranda Howard, and is part of the Move, Dance, Feel Dance in Cancer Care Network.
The group encourages exercise on your own terms, allowing participants to move at their own pace, whether seated or standing. Research shows that these sessions not only promote physical activity but also foster a culture of acceptance, trust, and understanding.
One participant described the experience as “both a release and a form of nourishment.”
