The owner of a troubled development in Newquay has submitted a planning application to change the use of part of the site.
The application submitted by Cornwall Planning Group is seeking permission for 50 of the 74 apartments at One Pentire, on Pentire Avenue, to be used as serviced accommodation. The application states they are seeking to "change the lawful use of these apartments from a combination of residential and hotel use to aparthotel use."
It states no alterations will be made to the external or internal structure of the building, and that each apartment is already a self-contained unit with a kitchen, bathroom, and bedroom or living space.
The Design and Access Statement explains:
"Under the proposed aparthotel use, the apartments will operate as serviced accommodation aimed at short-term visitors, with all bookings, maintenance, and guest services managed by a dedicated management company. Guests will continue to access the apartments via the existing secure communal entrance lobby located on the ground floor. Internal servicing, such as linen changes and cleaning, will be managed using existing basement storage areas, which are to be repurposed for this use."
Parking, refuse storage, and cycle facilities will remain unchanged and are already in place as part of the wider development on the site of the former Fistral Bay Hotel.
The proposal comes amid ongoing concerns from some local residents about the state of the building and uncertainty around whether the overall development will be completed.
