Volunteers at a Newquay community project are celebrating after securing £100,000 in funding to transform their garden in the town centre.
Crantock Street Community Garden was awarded the money following a major fundraising effort earlier this year. It will support the rejuvenation of the space with the help of award-winning designer - Kim Parish.
The funding comes from the Community Infrastructure Levy – a charge placed on developers to support local communities.
Chair of the garden committee - Anna Jay - has thanked former Cornwall Council Cabinet Member and Newquay councillor Olly Monk, Newquay Town Council, and Cornwall Council’s Community Capacity Fund for their backing.
“We will be levelling up the ground to make it accessible for buggies and wheelchairs, and make it safe for all to use, laying resin flooring," she said.
"With Kim, we have developed a detailed planting plan which includes easy maintenance plants, the colours of which are in keeping with the ‘fire’ theme as the garden is the site of the old fire station. We will create a fire crest from reused materials.”
The group hopes the garden will become a welcoming space for the whole community to enjoy.
