Cornwall Council is to review the placement of new road signs in Newquay following multiple complaints from residents about reduced visibility at junctions.
Newquay Town Councillor for Tretherras and Porth, Nick Morris, contacted the council’s Highways department after concerns were raised on social media about large directional signs installed at roundabouts linked to the new Newquay Strategic Route.
Some drivers say the signs are so large they block their view at key junctions, creating potential safety risks. Affected locations include Porth Four Turns (Trevenson Road / Henver Road), the roundabout at Hendra Holiday Park/ Newquay Strategic Route, and the Nansledan roundabout at William Hosking Road and Quintrell Road.
One motorist said: “I appreciate the idea may be to ensure fully stopping rather than rolling into the roundabout. But this one actually prevents you being able to see until you pull onto it – especially for vehicles with a long bonnet!” Another described the situation as “an accident waiting to happen.”
A spokesperson for Cornwall Council said: “We have been contacted by members of the public about this issue and will be reviewing the placement of the signs as part of the final stage of the road safety audit process.”
