This November, the fourth annual "Superhero in the Cold" swim returns, inviting participants to brave the sea dressed as superheroes to raise funds for Cancer Research UK.
The event will take place, sadly, without its founder, Amy Gordon, who passed away peacefully on Sunday, 3rd March 2024. Amy was diagnosed with grade 2 breast cancer on World Cancer Day in 2020.
Following her diagnosis, Amy was determined to live each day to the full, challenge herself, and make a difference for future cancer patients. One of her greatest tests was the 2021 Cancer Research UK cold-water challenge – to swim every day for a month. Having completed this daunting task alongside her “superhero sidekick” Andrea Flannigan, the pair then started their own event, Superheroes in the Cold, which has since raised thousands of pounds for Cancer Research UK.
The event returns for the fourth time on Sunday, 17th November, in Amy’s honour, as superheroes are once again invited to rummage through their drawers and cupboards to create a costume to wear before entering the ocean.
The swim takes place at Towan Beach at 10 a.m.
