The impact of crime on businesses in Newquay is being highlighted this week.
Several organisations, including the Police and Newquay Business Improvement District (BID), are working together to focus resources on reducing crime in the area. The campaign is part of a nationwide initiative in response to a 37% rise in shoplifting across the country.
Devon & Cornwall Police are supporting Safer Business Action Week, aiming to promote positive relationships between retail outlets, employees, security staff, and local police teams to combat business crime.
Mark Warren, Manager of Newquay BID, explained that shoplifting has a significant impact on small businesses and is one of the key areas of focus during the week of action. On Thursday, he will visit businesses in the town with police and local partners to offer advice and support to help tackle crime.
Assistant Chief Constable Glen Mayhew of Devon & Cornwall Police said, “We are aware of the impact that business crime can have on our communities. Tackling this issue remains a priority for the Force, and weeks of action like this demonstrate our commitment to helping protect local businesses. By taking a collaborative and proactive approach, we can deploy resources to specific locations on patrol and directly target offenders."
