A clean-up operation is under way in Mawgan Porth after the river burst its banks during Storm Ingrid, causing flooding in the village.
Heavy rain and strong winds have caused disruption across Cornwall, with flooding affecting roads, businesses and rail services. Mawgan Porth has a history of flooding, and some businesses have been forced to close temporarily.
Prolonged rain overnight has also led to the closure of the Newquay to Par branch line. Great Western Railway says flooding between Par and Newquay has shut the line, with all services to and from the stations cancelled. Disruption is expected to continue until 5pm today.
Kernow Weather Team says Storm Ingrid, named by the Portuguese weather service IPMA, will continue to influence conditions through Saturday as it slowly moves north over the Celtic Sea. Forecasters warn the slow-moving system is bringing repeated bands of heavy rain, at times merging into longer spells with only brief breaks. The Met Office has extended a yellow weather warning for rain across Cornwall until 10pm tonight.
Several roads have been affected, including the A3058 between Dairyland and Gummows Shop, which has been reported as flooded. Large areas of standing water have also been seen in and around Newquay.
The Met Office has also issued a new yellow weather warning for heavy rain from 6pm on Monday until 2pm on Tuesday. Forecasters say further outbreaks of rain, heavy at times, are expected across Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly, with persistent rain gradually clearing into blustery showers later on Tuesday.
Residents and motorists are being urged to take care, particularly in flood-prone areas and on affected roads.
