A section of Treloggan Road in Newquay is being closed from today to allow South West Water to carry out more extensive repair works than first expected.
The utility company says it has been working to repair a fault while trying to minimise disruption to traffic. However, engineers have found the damage is more extensive than first anticipated, meaning a larger section of the road now needs to be excavated.
Treloggan Road will be closed between Polwhele Road and Wheatfield Crescent while the work takes place.
South West Water said it was aware the closure would cause further disruption following previous works in the area and apologised to residents, businesses and visitors.
A spokesperson said: "We are very aware of the past closures along here on other works and want to assure all residents, businesses and visitors that we will get these works completed as soon as we can."
Go Cornwall Bus has been informed of the closure and passengers are being advised to check directly with the operator for temporary timetable and route changes.
Schools and local businesses have also been notified.
The diversion route will follow the same route used during previous closures.
Residents experiencing issues that cannot be resolved using the diversion are being asked to contact South West Water on 0344 346 2020, quoting reference 12668335.
