Police say they are "investigating the circumstances" surrounding the fire in a derelict Narrowcliff property after a body was found inside.
Officers were called by the fire service at around 4.35pm on Tuesday 22 July.
A spokesperson for Devon and Cornwall Police said: "Following enquiries to identify and locate next of kin, we can now confirm that the body of a man in his 30s was found deceased in the property.
"His next of kin have been informed.
"The death is currently being treated as unexplained, but officers are keeping an open mind".
Enquiries are ongoing and a police cordon remains in place at the scene.
