Newquay Beer Festival returns for 13th year

Newquay Beer Festival is returning to Hendra Holiday Park this weekend, with three days of live music and entertainment raising money for local good causes.

The annual charity event, organised by Towan Blystra Lions, takes place from Friday to Sunday and is now in its 13th year.

Since it was launched in 2013, the festival has raised more than £130,000 for charities and community organisations.

More than 30 music acts are due to perform across the weekend, including Rudi’s Message, Substitute and Shooter.

Visitors will also be able to choose from a wide selection of beers, ciders and other drinks.

'Totally run by volunteers'

Organisers say one of the reasons the festival is able to raise significant sums for good causes is the support it receives from volunteers.

Lion Phil Bunts said the event relied on people giving up their time to make it happen.

"One of the big things is, of course, it's all volunteers," he said.

"The only overheads are actually what we have to pay to other companies who provide us with the beer, the cider, the services, the marquees, et cetera.

"It's an event that's totally run by volunteers, but volunteers with a lot of experience, having done this for the previous 12 years, and now we're into year 13."
