A woman was pulled unconscious from the sea by RNLI lifeguards at Fistral Beach in Newquay on Saturday, after suffering a medical episode in the water.
The charity says lifeguards were patrolling the red and yellow flags at around 1.20pm when they spotted the adult female face down in the water. Two lifeguards entered the sea fully clothed and brought the casualty to shore, where they provided emergency medical treatment.
They called 999 and paramedics arrived within ten minutes. The woman was transferred to the beach car park in a lifeguard vehicle before being handed into the care of ambulance crews.
Lewis Timson, Lead Lifeguard Supervisor for Newquay, said:
“I couldn’t be prouder of the way that the lifeguards reacted quickly and ran into the water fully clothed to help get the casualty out of the water.
Their quick-thinking has helped to save a life, and it really highlights the importance of visiting a beach with lifeguards who are on hand to deal with any emergencies that may occur.”
RNLI lifeguards will be on duty at Fistral every day between 10am and 6pm until 2 November.
